Song Review: Welcome To MY World by aespa (Feat. naevis)

It would not be an exaggeration to say that I haven’t heard song that quite sounds like ‘Welcome To MY World’. In the case of this song, it is a huge compliment.

I am a huge fan of the atmosphere created through the production which is strengthened by the carefully chosen chords of the vocal melodies. It gives off an almost hopeful vibe, yet there is an ominous foreboding that something bad is still going to happen through it all. It is present throughout the whole track, which becomes strangely compelling.

This is also the few times (if I am not mistaken) aespa has sounded so stripped down within their own songs, with their vocals being given a massive spotlight. Their vocal delivery played a huge role to why this entire song works so well, adding to sense of ever-present ominous feeling. The sweet voices of NingNing and Winter as high sopranos were used to juxtapose the moments where the music took a darker turn, with the darker timbre of Karina also used to support the contrasting areas. One can tell that the vocal production and directing was really well-thought of. Winter and Karina particularly shined in this track, but all of them did an excellent job, nothing more nothing less.

One last thing I want to mention is how satisfying the song handled its swell, continuously building up in a way that feels very satisfying.

‘Welcome To My World’ is easily one of my favorite K-pop songs to come up this year, and I don’t think I’ll hear anything quite like it for the years to come.
