Due to how short these two songs are, I decided to just combine the two in one review.
Ooooo, this one has me mad. Simply put, it is too short. That is literally my only complain about it. After cycling through several listens, I fully got into the song- only for it end prematurely. I actually like the production of this in comparison to ‘Super Shy’ and ‘ETA’, but it fails to build to more at a shocking 1 minute and 49 seconds!!! It delivers a vibe quite similar to ‘Cool With You’, but does it even better- in every way except its song length. In ‘Cool With You’, despite its short run time, it managed to sound complete, which is an accomplishment for any song which attempts to adhere to the streaming and TikTok culture of today. ‘NewJeans’ still felt incomplete, which is frustrating. It might have been one of my favourites of the album otherwise.
Hooks – 8
Production – 8 (would have been 10, but following what I did for ‘Hold Me Tight’ and ‘Always’, minus a whopping two points for being incomplete)
Vocal Delivery – 9
Overall – 8.25
This one has frustrated fans the most among the entire album, because many like this the most, yet it runs only for a criminal 30-ish seconds. I completely understand.
‘Get Up’, at least so far, is the song where NewJeans almost fully leans into the RnB sound, and they sound absolutely amazing. The song writing here feels the most fleshed out among the whole album actually, with the melodies from the top line and ad-libs intertwining very naturally and with flair, along with a captivating vocal delivery from the girls, probably one of their best yet. The production is quite interesting, really leaning into the RnB influence, reminding me of Natty’s Sugarcoat actually (even more than Close To You), except make it NewJeans style.
And then it ends. Just like that. Oh boy, this is a true crime.
Hooks – 7 (would probably have been a 9 if fully fleshed out)
Production – 7 (Would have been 10 if not too short- by ALOT)
Vocal Delivery – 10
Overall – 7.75
